There is a hidden button located on the back of the iPhone, a viral TikTok showed.

While the option to use the button has been on Apple's phone for years, a new video has brought it to a whole new group of people. More than a million users have seen a single video celebrating the new feature, which warns that people are misusing their iPhones if they don't take advantage of it.

The feature, called Back Tap, is actually on the phone as an accessibility feature, designed to give people more control over their phone. And it can be used for just about anything.

It is activated by tapping two or three times on the back of the phone, in the same place as the Apple logo. It must be configured in settings, but can then be used to activate just about anything the phone can TO DO.

This includes opening apps, taking pictures, or turning on the flashlight. But it also involves much more complicated processes, when used in combination with shortcut apps. Apple.

All functionality required is a relatively new iPhone that has been updated to iOS 14 software, which was released in September 2020.

The feature can be enabled by opening the Settings app. There, click on the “Accessibility” option and then on “Touch”, where the “Touch on the back” setting should appear.

You can then click on the double or triple tap settings and choose from a long list of various features that can be turned on or off with a single tap. (The double and triple tap settings work independently, so the secret button is really two.)

Once done, tap the back of the phone two or three times for the chosen action to occur.

The gesture becomes even more powerful when combined with Apple's Shortcuts app, which allows for the creation of detailed automated processes that can be launched with the same touch. Users can create a new shortcut in the application, then set the gesture to activate it.

These shortcuts can now be created in the app itself and can be combined to be as complicated or as simple as possible. Many operations can be combined: you can ask the phone to find the route to your home , send a text message with the estimated time of arrival to a contact, then open the Music application to choose songs to listen to during your trip, for example. example example..

Once this shortcut is created, it can be selected like any other in accessibility menus. When the 'Back Tap' option is chosen, as above, scroll down and your shortcuts recorded should be there.

Also, since the feature is designed as an accessibility feature, it can be used to override other settings that users may find more difficult to use. It can be combined with other accessibility tools. accessibility like AssistiveTouch or Magnifier, by activating them with a simple touch.

Despite being described as a button and working as such, the Back Tap option isn't really a button. Instead, it uses hardware sensors and smart software to identify when it thinks someone touched the back of the phone.
