The sellers of the school equipment practicing near the ex-central market in the town hall of Bujumbura say they are indignant by the measure of the town hall to suspend their activities since September 21.They ask the town hall to extend the duration until the end of September as planned in the contracts.
At 10 a.m. on September 20, traffic is intense in the city center near the former central market.A line of tables can be seen on all sides of the street.Sellers spread their goods, especially notebooks, pens, books and other school materials.
Customers come one by one.The tables are still full of goods. Some sellers are unaware that the campaign ends on September 21 and continue to get their supplies.Others try to empty their stocks goodly nilly.
"We still have goods for sale.If the town hall decides to put an end to this campaign, the losses will be enormous for us, ”says a woman met on a stand near the parking of the buses serving the south of the town hall.
She denies the accusations that there would be those who sell articles other than school equipment. This saleswoman indicates that she will be forced to keep the equipment remaining at home to sell it next year.
"On contracts with the town hall, we agreed that the campaign would end on September 30, but the municipal administration surprised us with the measure to suspend activities on September 21," said another seller.
He deplores that the town hall of Bujumbura did not communicate to the sellers in real time: "I supplied myself hoping that the campaign will end on September 30.We had to tell us at least a month before to take necessary precautions ”.
Another seller confides that he had contracted a debt to invest in the sale of school equipment: "If I do not manage to sell all these goods, I may not be able to repay the debt".
These sellers urge the town hall of Bujumbura to extend the duration of the school equipment sales campaign until the end of September so that they can exhaust their stocks.
Contacted, the mayor of the city of Bujumbura Jimmy Hatungimana says that these sellers must move as soon as possible. He explains that the town hall needs this place for other activities.Nevertheless, he promises an extension of a week.
