Elected in the constituency of Gitega, Senator Spés-Caritas Njebarikanuye is no longer 1st Vice-President of the Senate but retains her mandate as a senator. She was ejected from the office of the Senate by a unanimous vote this Tuesday, September 14 in a plenary session of the Upper House of Parliament.
This senator from the commune of Giheta in the province of Gitega was replaced in the chair of the 1st Vice-President of the Senate by the Honorable Denise Ndadaye.
According to reliable sources, the sacked senator was not present during this plenary meeting, which many consider extraordinary.
According to some indiscretions of the senators, the agenda of the day had nothing to do with this dismissal.
Even the press was invited at the last minute. When the first reporters arrived at the hemicycle, this session was already over and the honorable senators had returned.
Before this plenary, things became clearer when some senators very close to the decision-making bodies of the Cndd-Fdd began to whisper in the corridors that the objective of the plenary is to elect new members of the office.
According to reliable sources, the native of Giheta was replaced on the orders of the Eagle party of which she is a member. "We have been informed that the ''Bagumyabanga'' (party activists) have sent a letter to the Secretary General of the party telling him that Spés-Caritas Njebarikanuye no longer deserves their confidence and that it would be preferable that she be replaced quickly. so as not to tarnish the image of the party", confided to us a deputy while claiming his anonymity.
Indeed in a press release made public this Tuesday, September 14, the Cndd-Fdd congratulates the new first vice-president of the Senate, the Hon. Denise Ndadaye, elected in the constituency of Mwaro.
"The Cndd-Fdd congratulates Senator Denise Ndadaye for the confidence placed in her and for her appointment to the post of first vice-president of the Burundian Senate", can we read in this press release.
This ruling party let it be known that the Hon. Njebarikanuye was no longer worthy of appearing in the office of the Senate: "Considering the latest recommendations made at the end of the meeting of the Central Committee of the party held in Ngozi from August 26 to 27 in terms of the behavior that any dignitary from the party , the Cndd-Fdd welcomes the decision taken by the senators to replace the first vice-president of the Senate, Mrs. Spès Caritas Njebarikanuye”.
It should be noted that his company, Family Dan and Stacy, a sugar distributor, had just been fined 2 million Burundian francs for having sold a bag for 125,000 francs instead of the official price of 114,000 Burundian francs.
The Société sucrière du Moso (SOSUMO) through its managing director subsequently took the decision to remove this company from the list of sugar distributors.
