Activating Free Mobile's VoLTE may block the sending of SMS on certain models from the Chinese manufacturer.

The vagaries of beta testing. Some Free Mobile subscribers who wanted to test voice over 4G from their Xiaomi smartphone found themselves unable to send SMS. Free provides some details and indicates that in this case, it is better to deactivate VoLTE.

A subscriber relayed this problem on Twitter, indicating that he had followed the procedure indicated by the manufacturer of his smartphone. On some Xiaomi mobiles, to be able to activate VoLTE it is necessary to follow these steps:

1. In the dialer, activate VoLTE with the code *#*#86583#*#*

2. Check that the setting is activated by going to Settings/Sim Cards and Mobile Networks/Your sim/activate Volta.

3. Text your “VoLTE” text to 1337

However, to the dismay of this subscriber, this manipulation prevented him from sending sms. The Free 1337 account then indicated that the problem was well known to the operator's teams, indicating that it is a bug in the management of SMS in VoLTE on smartphones. The manufacturer has thus been informed.

The list of smartphones concerned has not been communicated, but Free ensures that the manipulation works on all those present in this list do not encounter any problems. Pending a correction from Xiaomi, it is therefore necessary for the moment to deactivate VoLTE to be able to continue sending messages.
