Tesla has begun rolling out its year-end software update. There are very practical changes, including the customization of the app launcher, but also some games (Sonic, Sudoku) as well as a Light Show function.

As expected, Elon Musk had announced it upstream on Twitter, Tesla has just started to deploy its end-of-year update, called “big holiday update” (version 2021.44.25). The deployment has started in the United States, it should not be long in Europe.

Tesla made 26 updates this year to its Tesla car, most of which didn't add anything, but there were a few handy new ones.

The big end of the year update

The special novelty for the end of the year celebrations is undoubtedly Light Show. The Tesla can perform a choreography of lights, a function that we already knew on the Model X in 2015.

Certainly the best novelty of this big update, the application launcher can finally be personalized. Like on recent Peugeot cars, you can now drag your favorite apps to the bottom menu for easier access.

Tesla has also made it easier to access key controls, like charging, accessing rides, or simple things like tire pressure. By the way, dark mode can now be activated manually.

Tesla has also added a way to automate the blind spot camera view: a live view of the blind spot appears on the screen every time you activate the turn signal. This is a function that we have already seen with other manufacturers. It will have to be activated manually in the settings.

The navigation software has also evolved with the possibility of adding intermediate stages. You will now be able to modify them more easily, to add or modify a stop. By the way, Tesla has added the ability to delete card details if that bothers you.

Tesla has also added games and apps, including TikTok, Sonic the Hedgehog (or simply Sonic), the 1991 game released on Mega Drive, Sudoku and a novelty that should appeal to fans of The Battle of Polytopia game. You can play multiple now.

You will be able to manage videos produced by dashcams more easily, especially to delete them in batch in Controls > Security > Dashcam > Delete clips from Dashcam.

The other new features concern the most useful currently: you can now precondition the cabin from the Tesla application when your battery is at a lower level of charge. There is also an option to automate the activation of the heated seats depending on the outside/inside temperature in the passenger compartment.
