Guide updated on April 28, 2021. RED by SFR is expanding its catalog of options. For an additional 7 euros per month, its fiber formula includes the SFR Box 8. This latest generation box is WiFi 6 compatible and allows you to benefit from a theoretical maximum shared download speed of 2 Gb/s. The operator also integrates its TV package of 35 channels, accessible from a new RED TV application, at no additional cost. Should you fall for this internet package?

Altice's no-commitment operator is not only making waves with its low-cost mobile plan, RED by SFR also intends to occupy landline ground with its internet box proposals, whether in ADSL or fiber. Initially offered at €16 in ADSL and €25 for fiber, the operator's star offer regularly benefits from "options" offered such as re-evaluated speeds or unlimited calls to mobiles and even a month or two months of subscription. We were interested in this box and this offer which sometimes goes into extra time.

1. High speeds, ideally free

The Box fiber internet package at 25€/month from RED by SFR is particularly attractive when the operator includes two free options generally billed at 5€/month each: unlimited calls to mobiles and the Debit Plus option. And when these are integrated at no additional cost, as is currently the case, the offer clearly gains in appeal with proposed speeds that will go up to 1 Gb/s in reception and 500 Mb/s in transmission against 300 Mb/s. s in reception and 300 Mb/s in transmission usually. The operator has also recently invited you to subscribe to the Max speed option. Billed at 7 euros per month, it allows you to take advantage of WiFi 6 and a maximum shared theoretical downlink speed of 2 Gb/s thanks to the SFR Box 8.

Remember that as usual with ISPs, these are theoretical speeds. Note that according to the latest nPerf barometer for 2020, SFR offers good speeds in practice (419 Mb/s download on average) and is ahead of Orange or Bouygues, but behind Free (which does not segment its offers speeds unlike its competitors who often offer either 400 Mb/s on the "entry level" or 1 Gb/s on the "premium").

2. Promos without duration conditions

RED by SFR: what it you should know about the Fiber (or ADSL) box at 16 or 25 euros / month

RED/SFR's promotions are marked as "no time limit", understand that the discounted rates will not double after one year as is often the practice with other operators. Also note that the options offered will remain free for the duration of your subscription. Finally, remember that this is a non-binding offer leaving more flexibility to subscribers to switch from one offer to another.

3. A recent WiFi 6 box with 4K

For 25 euros, the equipment offered by SFR consists of a modem which, with the Debit Plus option, offers a maximum theoretical speed of 1 Gb/s . It integrates Wi-Fi AC 5GHz MIMO 3x3, 4 Ethernet ports and 1 master USB port. You can also take advantage of the advantages of SFR's latest box, box 8, for 7 euros more. It has 1 fiber optic port, 2 LAN ports and 1 USB 3.1 port.

The Connect TV decoder, available for €19 to purchase, comes with an omnidirectional remote control with integrated QWERTY keyboard and it manages 4K / Ultra HD video streams. It is also compatible with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Finally, it integrates a Chromecast. To store its content, the operator is on the other hand a bit stingy with a digital hard drive that can store up to 8 hours of recording. You can also just use the application to watch the content of the channels included on all media except TV.

4. TV options and unlimited calls

The new RED TV application allowing you to watch 35 channels from the RED Box is available at no extra cost compared to €2 per month previously. You also have access to Replay, live control, recording of up to 8 hours of programs, internet on TV and access to your TV from a smartphone or tablet via the RED TV app. For an additional €4 per month, you can enjoy a package of 100 channels.

Calls to landlines in France and to 100 destinations worldwide are unlimited. Unlimited calls to mobiles are currently included in the offer at no extra cost. Normally, this option is billed at 5 euros per month.

5. Termination costs and fiber installation

Note that if the offer is non-binding, as always, termination costs will be payable, in this case the termination costs are 49 €. SFR/RED, on the other hand, offers to cover the termination costs of your former operator with a refund of up to €100. Connection and installation of fiber in your home as well as technical assistance are also offered.

6. Should I go now?

Displayed from 25 euros, the RED by SFR fiber internet box is still very attractive since the operator currently offers the options Debit Plus and Unlimited calls to mobiles as well as two months of subscription. Normally, this package with these two options would have cost you 35 euros per month. This non-binding offer therefore ticks all the boxes and remains the most competitive on the fiber market (see the best promotions of the month), at least as long as these options remain available. We also appreciate the Box 8 formula at 32 euros per month instead of 37 euros for WiFi 6 support and 2 Gb / s download.

The other strengths of RED's offer are installation costs (connection/reimbursement of termination costs) and of course the price, which is very attractive for fiber (coaxial or FTTH). Currently, the Internet offer of RED is clearly a good plan.
