Apple has reportedly overcome major production issues with its new smartwatch, the Apple Watch Series 7. The smartwatch, which will be introduced on September 14 alongside the iPhone 13 and AirPods 3, should be launched later this month.
According to a new memo from renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has resolved all panel quality issues for the new Apple Watch Series 7. As a result, major supplier Luxshare will begin mass shipments in the mid-to-late end of September.
We were expecting some delays, however, as Nikkei sources indicated that Apple had suspended production of the new watch. However, the American giant would have quickly solved the problems, and the release of the watch would still be scheduled for September 30. However, it can be expected that launch stocks will be very limited. Kuo also says Watch shipments will increase significantly this year.
According to Kuo, the new Apple Watch Series 7 had to go through more production processes than previous models due to a “dramatic” change in design. Indeed, we know that Apple's new smartwatch will use flat edges, much like what we see in the current iPhone 12 lineup.
Kuo adds that the Series 7 would feature a more durable display panel using a new design that required a new production process. In addition, Apple would use a new OLED panel production line. The manufacturer is said to have brought in new suppliers, including LG Display, Young Poong and Jabil, to make OLED production more efficient and cost-effective.
Besides the flatter screen, the new smartwatch is expected to feature slightly larger 41mm and 45mm bezels (compared to 40 and 44mm on previous models), bumping the larger screen from 1.78 to 1 .9 inches diagonally. As is usually the case with each new generation, the watches are also expected to feature a faster processor and updated wireless technology.
