Panasonic has released an update for its televisions so that they can take advantage of all the features of HDMI 2.1.
In the field of televisions, one of the main novelties of this year is undoubtedly the deployment of HDMI 2.1. It must be said that the latest generation of consoles, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, have succeeded in democratizing this new standard allowing to reach 4K in 120 FPS.
However, not all manufacturers were up to date yet. If the latest models from LG, Samsung or Sony are compatible, Panasonic for example launched televisions this year which were devoid of this connection. Never mind, the Japanese manufacturer has decided to update some of its televisions at the end of the year to support HDMI 2.1.
This software update is thus offered on the Panasonic JZ, JX970 and JX940 models. It allows these three ranges of televisions to take advantage of full support for HDMI 2.1 and therefore bring a whole lot of new features. This is particularly the case with a "4K120Hz bypass Mode" which, as its name suggests, will allow you to enjoy 4K at 120 frames per second, but also a variable refresh rate (VRR) to that the fluidity of the television adapts to the flow sent by the game consoles. In addition, this mode will also deactivate the image processing in order to make the latency as short as possible between the controls and the display on the screen .
In addition to HDMI 2.1, this update also brings support for Dolby Vision in VRR up to 60 frames per second. Note that HDMI 2.1 was already available on certain connectors, in order to take advantage of ALLM or VRR. However, 4K at 120 frames per second was still missing from the program. It is now done with this update of Panasonic televisions.
The Panasonic TV update is already available in Europe to owners of Panasonic JZ, JX970 and JX940 TVs:
