The phones segment sold between 300 and 400 euros swallowing extremely competitive candidates.Recently, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G was tempted to a small foray with a nice success, without dethroning the princes of this tariff tranche (OnePlus Nord, Poco F3 and Google Pixel 4A).
On the turn, this time, of the Oppo A94 5G to rub it.Officialized on April 13, this mid -range smartphone brings in its bag an OLED screen, a quadruple photo sensor, a battery of 4310 mAh and a quick load of 30 W, for the sum of 359.90 euros. Can it make a real place in the middle of this ocean of sharks?Answer in this test.

This test was carried out from a smartphone loaned by the brand.
For its A94 5G, Oppo did not make a madness and offers everything that is most classic for a mid -range smartphone. At the front, a bubble that would have deserved a bit more discretion welcomes the selfie camera at the top left of the screen. The black borders, too, could be less thick, especially at the level of the chin.
It’s not unacceptable, but it doesn’t strengthen the overall elegance of the mobile device. In the back ... it gets complicated. The polymer coating, which gives itself a small "glass" effect, is very messy: it catches both many fingerprints and a beautiful amount of dust.At least for the black twilight color.

This observation is striking and jumps out, but it can be greatly attenuated with the presence of a shell.Rectangular and rounded edges, the photo module is made up of a flash and four sensors. The said module is neither too thick nor too fine.Flat, the phone can however be wobbly depending on the locations where you press the screen.
For once, and it is rare enough to emphasize it, the volume buttons invite themselves on the left slice of the mobile: a very practical location to make a screenshot with your adult on one side, and your thumbof the other which presses the standby button. The latter's position does not pose any access problems.
Source: Anthony Wonner - Frandroid
Still on this left edge is a location provided for a double SIM card as well as a microSD card to extend storage. The lower edge accommodates the most elements, with, from left to right, a 3.5 mm jack, a USB-C output and the one and only speaker grid.
Does the handling of the OPPO A94 deserve our praises?Yes and no.At the first use, the telephone scores points thanks to its weight contained of 173 grams and its thickness of 7.8 mm.This does not place it either in the featherweight category, but it is still in the low average.
Source: Anthony Wonner - Frandroid
The rounded corners and slices provide a pleasant feeling in hand. It's a quality ... but also a defect.Because the lower edge, because precisely rounded, tends to very slightly bring out the connectors, which then comes to rub your support finger, the little one in this case.It is not very pleasant.
On the other hand, the Oppo A94 has this little something that the majority of its direct competitors do not have: a fingerprint sensor located under the screen, and not on the side as is generally the case. However, this sensor would have deserved a slightly higher placement. Here, you have to go get it with your thumb.
The phone offers a dragontrail ™ pro protective glass, competitor of the Gorilla Glass from Corning. No mention is made as for a certification against water and dust.
Let's put the points on the "I" immediately: the Oppo A94 does not have the best screen of its segment.Admittedly, its 6.43 -inch slab benefits from an FHD+ definition (2400 x 1080 pixels) quite suitable and an OLED display technology which provides endless contrasts, but several other small black dots come to target everything.
According to our probe and the Calman Portrait Displays software, its maximum brightness amounts to 585 cd/m2.Or a result a bit fair and below average, which leads to some small difficulties in reading the contents of your phone well when the sun is intense.
Source: Anthony Wonner - Frandroid
In saturated mode, the screen temperature rises to 7,500 k.Again, this score lacks accuracy and moves away from the desired 6,500 k and which correspond to a good color balance. Here, the OPPO to A94 5G tends to pull too much to blue.A manual palette allows you to add a little heat.
Last disappointing point: the refresh rate of 60 Hz, the minimum required.Opposite, the competition offers much better: 90 Hz on the northern oneplus, or even 120 Hz on the Poco F3.Admittedly, the Google Pixel 4A also remains confined to 60 Hz, but its perfectly calibrated screen counterbalances this little false note.
When he started, Coloros was not the most loved software interface and best suited to European users. But water has since flowed under the bridges, and Oppo has made profound changes to make its phones pleasant to use.The Oppo Find X3 Pro test is recent proof.
On this Oppo A94, the last security update dates from April 2021.It's reassuring. The smartphone is based on version 11.1 of Coloros, turning on Android 11.And as was the case on the brand's standard bearer, the interface is extremely complete and customizable as possible.
For those who like to customize their interface according to their desires, you will be served. The personalization tab allows you to change the style of application icons, the size of the icon and their logo, the arrangement (number of columns and lines) of applications, the animation of the imprint icondigital, the color and shape of the quick parameters or the size of the font and display.
In short, you will understand: Coloros 11 is similar to a small temple of personalization. Also add the intelligent sidebar, which gives you access to several predefined applications (but which you can choose manually) via a small sidebar accessible to a hand and a finger.Very convenient !
You will also appreciate the small amount of bloatware, these preinstalled applications which often have no use, except for commercial purposes.Booking, Amazon, Facebook, Video Prime, Amazon Music and Netflix boutique are the few applications natively on the phone.Without forgetting the whole Google continuation.
For its part, the Always-on mode would have deserved a little more colors: it is indeed displayed in black and white on the locked screen, which makes it Tristounet. For the rest, you will find all that is most classic: from dark mode to navigation by gestures via the split screen and the various gestures dedicated to precise features.
The fingerprint sensor does not suffer from any major defect, except to place its thumb with precision on the area provided for this purpose. It is not always easy: I happened to go back to it several times to unlock the phone. The device is finally widevine L1 certified, and can therefore read HD content on SVOD platforms.
The Oppo A94 5G opts for a quadruple photo sensor, whose configuration here is:
Source: Anthony Wonner - Frandroid
The main sensor of the Oppo A94 has a lot of qualities, but a major defect that spoils the party.Let's start with the right points: the atmospheres are transcribed, the well -managed colorimetric treatment and the colors not too saturated (except for green, from time to time) and the dynamics seem relatively fair.
The big problem is the dive: the images lack finesse and details. It's a shame, and it takes prejudice. Finally, the photos captured by the Oppo A94 are not dazzling. At this price, a Pixel 4A will meet your expectations much better.
For its part, the ultra-wide angle suffers from a small colorimetric inconsistency: some tones are indeed more marked than others. On the fourth image, the trees located on the left tend to be under-exposed, while the stained glass windows of the church, at the bottom, accuse the blow with a burnt effect.
On the edges, the loss of details is obvious. Some small optical distortions appear without being glaring: in clear, we have seen worse. But overall, this ultra-angle does not make a big miracle.
At night, the phone is doing well when the scenes are properly lit by artificial lights.Lamps, moreover, have not been too tendency to drool or create Lens flare effects. In the idea, the images are exploitable.
But when the darkness is deeper, the Oppo A94 has a hard time satisfying us, the fault of a marked digital noise and a good loss of details.
Night mode, on the other hand, seems nonexistent: after several tests however, I do not notice any difference, notable or minimal, between the front or the front.
The 48 megapixel mode does not revolutionize the genre and does not provide special details. What we see, on the other hand, is the addition of micro-contracts, but that's all.
No miracle on the macro mode side. This sensor is only a device that has no real use.Worse, the photos taken with a very naughty yellow/green filter.
Portrait mode does not manage all situations perfectly, but is doing well on easy subjects. On image n ° 1, the sensor, for example, overexposed the window in the background, under my colleague's ear.On image n ° 2, the bugdroid antennas are not properly demarcated.Image n ° 3 is overall correct.
The level of blur can be set before or after taking the photo. And more generally, once again, the Pixel 4A remains the master in this area on this price range.
At the front, the selfie mode affixes a bokeh effect on several strands of hair, which are very complicated to manage. In short, many phones fall into this trap.Despite everything, the 16 megapixel camera offers beautiful pictures. She must just pay attention to the overexposure of certain indoor zones (photo n ° 3).
On video, the Oppo A 94 5G can film in 4K or 1080p at 30 fps, in the angle or in ultra-angle.An ultra stability mode is also available, with a slight crop in the image.
The Oppo A94 is based on Mediatek's know-how in terms of performance: you can count on the Dimensity 800U chip, which equips smartphones from the mid-range like the Oppo Reno 4z (379 euros) and the RedmiNote 9T (249 euros). This processor is supported by RAM 8, a nice amount of RAM.
The Dimensity 800U is renowned for its velocity, thanks to its engraving in 7 Nm, its 8 cores (4 Cortex A76 High performance at 2.4 GHz and 4 Cortex-A55 Basses Consumption at 2 GHz) and its graphic chip Arm Mali-G57MC3.Nevertheless, the king of power on smartphones sold less than 400 euros remains the Xiaomi Poco F3.

In practice, the Oppo A94 5G cannot run Fortnite, whose minimum required performance does not correspond to that of the smartphone. For amateurs or other big fans of the title of Epic Games, you will have to go your way.
To go more Loca, PCMARK, Geekbench and others: What are the differences between benchmarks?
On human impact, a game with flattering graphics, the graphic parameters are configured by default on the lowest quality and the smallest number of FPS (30).If you wish, you can build it all with a "high" quality and 60 fps, without it greatly degrading the experience.Small latencies will be felt here and there, without it being unacceptable.

On the other hand, the phone tends to heat a lot, both on the rear facade ... and on the screen. It is not very accommodating, and it makes us say that this Oppo is not completely cut for gaming.
Otherwise, on a daily basis, I did not notice significant slowdowns during my various Internet browsing and the installed applications. On this point, the terminal will meet most of your expectations.
Given its 4310 mAh battery, the Oppo A94 could at first glance in terms of autonomy. It's quite the opposite.Because well optimized, the phone is enduring and solid on the supports: count between a day and a half and two days of use before falling into an energy harder.
If you like to consume video content, play a few games and navigate your favorite applications, necessarily, the phone will not last two days.To give you an idea, he loses for example 11 % battery after 1:30 past spent on YouTube.

But if you are a moderate user, there is no reason why the Oppo A94 5G does not reach this little feat.Better still: Oppo provides a VOOC fast load of 30 W, which allows you to recover a package of percentages in a short time.See for yourself:
5G is becoming more and more obvious for many smartphones released in 2021, which they belong to the top as in the middle and the entry level. And here, Oppo wants to provide a phone capable of supporting the latest standard of mobile telephony thanks to 5G compatibility.
The Oppo A94 takes care of the majority of French frequency bands: you can count on the N1 (2100 MHz), N3 (1800 MHz), N7 (2600 MHz) and N28 (700 MHz), which rely on the4G infrastructure (note the absence of the N20), but also on the N78 (3.5 GHz) strip for 5G Sub-6.

On the side of the Bluetooth audio codecs, the mobile device is compatible with the main existing standards: SBC, AAC, APTX, Aptx HD, APTX TWS+, LDAC and LHDC.Bluetooth 5.1 is also in order, just like an NFC chip for dematerialized transport securities and contactless payments.
Telephone calls are of good quality: intelligible, your voice is not compressed when the phone erases noise pollution in a noisy environment.Your interlocutor can simply perceive your breath and a few horn strokes, but nothing too bad.In short, we end on a nice note to complete this test.
The OPPO A94 is available at the recommended price of 359.90 euros, but at the time of writing these lines (Wednesday May 26, 2021) from a reduction of 20 euros to fall to 339.90 euros. This price is worth for an 8 + 128 GB configuration, in black twilight or fantastic purple color.
