For this Friday evening, our choice fell on the last season of the American Crime Story anthology, and the Hunters series.
Synopsis
This third season of the American Crime Story anthology series focuses on the Monica Lewinsky affair, and on its tumultuous relationship with the President of the United States Bill Clinton, who led to an attempt to dismiss.
CNET France's opinion
Whether it's the case o.J.Simpson, or the assassination of Gianni Versace, the anthological series American Crime Story has always been able to build its seasons around criminal, scandalous and popular stories full of fantasies. An ideal breeding ground that the program does not move away in this third political and sulphurous season, centered around the Monica Lewinsky / Bill Clinton scandal.
Always produced by the unstoppable Ryan Murphy (Glee, Pose, Ratched), American Crime Story Impeachment offers a dive into the cruel world of politics in Washington.Much more than telling the scandal known to all, the series endeavors to explore the causes and consequences of a deadly system on the individuals who inhabit it, and in particular women.
We find ourselves as close as possible to Monica Lewinsky, interpreted by the talented Beanie Feldstein, victim of her own fantasies and especially the manipulation of an environment and people who live in him. Both portrait of a young woman, with her own fears, doubts and hopes, and highlighting an implacable patriarchal world, the series perfectly maste this change of scale.
Sometimes political and psychological thriller, sometimes intimate drama, American Crime Story Impeachment brilliantly tells the little little -known stories hidden behind the big, subtly packed in a mastered and sophisticated staging.A company well helped by a high quality cast: Sarah Paulson, Edie Falco, Clive, Owen, Mira Sorvino, Annaleigh Ashford, Cobie Smulders...
Whether through its political intrigue, its portraits of women, or its human dramas, this 3rd season will undoubtedly captivate you, and is one of our recent favorites.Note that the series is also available on Canal+.
Synopsis
New York, 1977.Nazi hunters discover that hundreds of senior Nazi officials conspire to create a fourth Reich in the United States.Their mission is to translate the Nazis into justice and to thwart their genocidal plans.
CNET France's opinion
The Hunters series has a good way of mixing the story, hard, poignant and realistic, and a more offbeat and grotesque tone. This mixture of genres sometimes leaves a strange impression of discomfort, especially during the sequences of the past taking place during the holocaust.Even if this is undoubtedly the desired effect, it is difficult not to want skeptics.
Because yes, let's clear this: Hunters is not a series constantly in the first degree. It is in this way that a part of the charm of the program resides. The group of "hunters" form an engaging and colorful team, and their quest for revenge is intelligently brought and staged.
After the few little slowness of the beginning, their bloody adventures are jubilant and effective. The improbable reversals of situations then multiply, and have the merit of surprising, sometimes to the detriment of some scriptwriting nonsense.
But regardless of credibility at all costs ultimately, Hunters remains a stakeholder series and excellent entertainment served by quality actors, the Al Pacino legend in mind.A pleasant series that will be able to fill your evenings well, and of which we are of course waiting for season 2.
