For Guillaume Bigot, the finalist in the environmental primary is a "menopausal Greta Thunberg".

POLITICS - Guillaume Bigot, columnist at CNews, introduces himself as a “political scientist”. However, this Sunday, September 26, the person concerned made remarks that borrow more from the café du commerce than from the political science amphitheaters. In question, the description he made of the ecologist Sandrine Rousseau, finalist against Yannick Jadot in the primary ecology.

“If you listen to it, you have the impression of an enlightened. It's green madness. It's a kind of menopausal Greta Thunberg”, launched the editorialist, discussing the strategy of the candidate. According to him, the interested party “overplays” her radicalism. “She forces the line. It increases the sound. When I say Greta Thunberg, you can see, she has eyes like owls (sic) and she delivers ultra-violent stuff while looking in front of the camera. This is somewhat what Madame Rousseau does. She's not the same age, that's what I meant," he said.

“Extreme sexism of a fat jerk”

Words that caused an outcry, especially among environmentalists. “Sexist insults are every day, every hour during this campaign. How can we still think that the presidential election offers a real democratic ground for women?”, was indignant the elected EELV of Paris (and support of Sandrine Rousseau), Alice Coffin.

Support for Yannick Jadot in the primary, the eco-friendly deputy Matthieu Orphelin also stepped up to the plate, denouncing on Twitter the “extreme sexism of a big jerk”. Julien Bayou, boss of EELV, for his part invited his subscribers to make a report to the CSA.

Sur CNews, la remarque sexiste de ce chroniqueur contre Rousseau, indigne la classe politique

Beyond the only ecological sphere, several personalities have given their support to Sandrine Rousseau. “We are in 2021 and when a woman defends her opinions, she is still called hysterical”, lamented the rebellious MEP Manon Aubry, denouncing the “stinking sexism” of the columnist.

A shared indignation on the side of the government. “I would like to discuss the fundamental disagreements that we have with Sandrine Rousseau, but the misogynistic excess of the commentators pushes me to defend her”, reacted Marlène Schiappa, Minister Delegate for Citizenship. "This 'political scientist' qualified me in June as an expert in 'wet t-shirt contests' without it moving anyone," added the minister.

While his words are widely denounced, Guillaume Bigot persists and signs. “I didn't know menopause was an insult. I also did not know that for an EELV candidate, being compared to Greta Thunberg could be infamous”, he commented, specifying that his remarks did not engage either Europe 1 or CNews. An explanation of the text, focused on the form and not on the substance of the remarks, which should not be likely to convince its opponents.
