Calls and SMS in the countries of the European Economic Area

When you move from your country of (European) to another EU country, you don't pay additional costs to use your mobile phone. This is called "roaming" or "roaming at national prices".Calls, whether to fixed or mobile phones, texts and data services are billed at national prices, that is to say at the same prices as calls, SMS and data applied in the country of the'Ue where we live.

Still within the EU or the EEA (European Economic Area*), the same rule applies to calls or SMS received abroad: no additional costs is billed to receive calls or SMS byroaming, even if the person calling you goes through another service provider.

Despite everything, this roaming at national prices only applies if user's movements are punctual and are part of what is authorized by its subscription and so -called "reasonable" use.If an operator notes over a period of 4 months, a more large roaming volume than that of the national consumption of his client, he may request to restore the use profile and charge costs, if the balance does notis not readjusted within two weeks of his request.Currently, these costs are capped at € 0.032 per minute of call issued, 0.01 euros per SMS and 2 euros in 2022 by GigaCte de Data. The mobile data surcharging ceiling which was € 7.70 per GigaCtet in 2017, is € 2.50 on January 1, 2022, which shows a clear improvement.Following an agreement reached in December 2021, this ceiling will be gradually reduced until reaching € 1 in 2027.

Mobile Internet in the European Economic Area

Tarifs de la téléphonie mobile en Europe

For the use of the mobile internet from one European economic space to another, the general rule also consists in the absence of overcharging. But as with calls and SMS, use must remain within the limit of "reasonable", otherwise the operator can decide to limit data use.It is therefore always wiser to learn about the limits of his package.
