Starring Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves behind the camera, "The Batman" is one of the most anticipated films of the year. Fans and viewers have been getting even more excited since the trailers for the feature film have been unveiled, promising a dark and violent story.
Moreover, speaking of the trailers, some fans have not failed to scrutinize the videos with a magnifying glass to find any link or nod to the DCEU… in vain. It turns out that Matt Reeves did not want any connection between his version of the Dark Knight and the DC-Universe.
While Marvel's MCU is a big hit in the cinema, the DCEU is still struggling to establish itself despite its efforts. Taken one by one, the films of the franchise are not bad at all, but the shared universe struggles to convince fans and viewers. It must be said that the DCEU encounters a lot of inconsistencies with the changes of heads (Batman and the Joker), the reboots in the same universe and not to mention the problems with the Justice League film and the Snyder Cut version.
So many reasons that pushed Matt Reeves to offer a film that is completely detached from the DCEU. The director spoke candidly about it in an exchange with Esquire. He said Ben Affleck (who played the Dark Knight in Justice League and Batman V Superman) came up with a script for "The Batman." Reeves had, however, declined the idea, explaining that he did not want to connect his film to the DCEU. "I respect the fact that the DC Universe became an extended universe and that all the movies were kind of connected," he said, before adding bluntly, "another Batman movie shouldn't have to endure the weight of connecting characters from all those other movies. I didn't want them in there. »
As you will have understood, Matt Reeves wants to explore a different path from the DCEU with “The Batman”. The director is determined to trace his own path, even if his version remains more or less in line with the latest films on the Dark Knight: dark and violent, if not even more. “The Batman” was indeed rated PG-13 with strong and “disturbing” content. Something to please fans who like when the dark side of Batman is fully exploited.
Matt Reeves is in any case delighted with the result, the director even went so far as to teaser that a lot of things were in preparation. Could “The Batman” be the start of a whole new trilogy devoted to the Dark Knight, still with Robert Pattinson in the leading role? Reeves obviously did not dwell on the subject, but the information on this subject should be soon. In the meantime, go to the cinema on March 4 to discover “The Batman”.
