A hundred people attended the public meeting organized by the municipality last Friday at the village hall. Many questions were on the agenda: new sorting instructions, creation of an extra-municipal commission, works and living environment, projects, addressing, direction of traffic, finances... not to mention the annoying subject: the installation of cameras around the kindergarten and rubbish containers at Pont Rouge and Cambou. About twenty opponents of this project reiterated their hostility and denounced "a forced passage", the said cameras having been installed the same day. The mayor defended the position of the municipality, the "against" made their voices heard, the "for" also came out of the woodwork... the tone inevitably rose in a village hall boiling over with dots obviously irreconcilable. In a stormy atmosphere, the "supporters of a village without a camera" ended up leaving the room, castigating the "premature" closure of the subject.
"The mayor has seriously reneged on his public word, they said. In July, he had decided to suspend the project at the trash cans because there were no more incivilities. were clean, “we would not spend money to put cameras in. He despises the work of the elected representatives of his majority who work against sorting incivilities with prevention.
Regarding the facilities at the school, he had declared to the delegates of the parents of pupils that there would be no cameras if they voted against. However, they voted against it unanimously. This was recalled by the parents' delegate Mathieu Rey, publicly stressing that the mayor "had no word".
On the radio, the mayor had assumed his categorical rejection of a referendum "No. Citizen consultation certainly not. This project is irrational, public money must meet the needs of the inhabitants, especially since according to the Court of accounts, no study demonstrates the effectiveness of cameras in preventing incivility".
For his part Jean-Philippe Périé maintains a firm and determined attitude: "The meeting was indeed stormy on the subject of the cameras. We understand very well the opposition of some, their point of view having already been exposed and supported at length At present their argument consists in taking up what the mayor would have said or not, and the interpretation that can be made of it. The opposition can last a while, but should be done in a citizen and republican way this which is not the case! Despite all the interpretations that are made, all the regulatory aspects have been respected and you should know that this is video protection and that there was never any question of filming or control the inhabitants. We would have preferred to talk here about the other subjects of the meeting and in particular the works or purchases in progress and the choice of priority investments which was presented. A place will be reserved for them in the quarterly bulletin of October and an account- returned will be available on the municipality's website. Marcillac-Vallon is rich in schools, services, shops...that's what we want to highlight and preserve!"
