According to the Minister of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Domitian Ndihokubwayo, US $ 76.2 million is the amount of credit approved by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on October 25 for Burundi.Announcement made this Monday, November 8.

Minister Ndihokubwayo specifies that this credit constitutes a rapid facility to support government initiatives for the national economy and macroeconomic stabilization."This facility is added to the $ 14.46 million envelope granted to Burundi as part of the debt reduction and with a view to contributing to the release of a budgetary space allowing authorities to limit the economic impactsand socially of the Pandemic of Covid-19, ”said the Minister responsible for finance.

And to recall that in August 2021, the IMF approved another envelope of nearly $ 211.5 million from an allocation of special prints (DTS) for Burundi.Minister Ndihokubwayo explains that these financial resources granted by the IMF will improve the level of exchange reserves and give more flexibility in the management of economic policies.

"These resources support the increase in the central bank's capacity to mitigate pressures on the exchange rate and the pursuit of the funding policy for strategic and growth sectors," he said, adding that they goAlso support government's efforts in the response against COVID-19.
