Microsoft still strongly believes in the emergence of connected and voice assistants. The firm therefore organized a study over several months with an online survey of more than 2,000 people in the United States, the United Kingdom, India, Australia and Canada.
Here are the results of this study.
One of the most interesting data of the survey is of course to know the distribution of the uses of assistants and to know which one is the most popular.
Despite being a study by Microsoft, the Cortana assistant is not the first according to the report, but rather the fourth with 19% behind Siri and Google Assistant, leading at 36%, and Amazon Alexa at 25%.
Note that it is possible to use several assistants, and it is therefore quite logical that the total exceeds 100%, each assistant is to be measured independently.
We can also note the total absence of competitors from the 4 giants, in particular Samsung's famous Bixby assistant.
According to the survey results, nearly 45% of respondents own at least one smart speaker. Among these owners, a large majority only have one speaker, but 30% already have two, and nearly 10% have three.
There are several methods for using an assistant: through the smartphone application, but also through a connected speaker, a connected object, a vehicle or even through the function of another assistant.
According to the report, the smartphone app is still highly preferred. This is quite logical since it is the object that almost everyone has, unlike a connected speaker or a television integrating an assistant.
We can note that the second use happens to be a voice command, a “skill”, through another assistant on a connected speaker. This fits well with Microsoft's strategy of offering Cortana as a simple skill of Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
