It doesn't matter that the GFK Study Institute predicted a PND GPS market below million parts sold in 2016.At Garmin, we continue to innovate in this segment. After a discount of the GPS ZUMO GPS range last May, it is the GPS PND's turn to undergo a total overhaul.Exit the old Nüvi range which had around fifteen references and place in Drive.Garmin did not do in the restriction since this new range offers no less than 11 references: rather risky in view of current projections! But that does not seem to scare the brand which ensures that there is a market according to the type of distributors.
This new generation of GPS is spread over 4 segments: Drive, Drivesmart, Driveassist and Drive Luxe. All these GPS has a common base of functions: free lifetime cards, Lane Assist, warning of accident -causing zones and Real Direction.
The entry -level, Drive, marketed from € 120, consists of 4 products with 3 different screen sizes: 4 (11 cm), 5 (13 cm) and 6 inches (15 cm).
The second range, Drivesmart, incorporates a Bluetooth chip in order to connect your smartphone.Once the latter paired, the driver can receive alerts and "smart notifications", such as incoming calls (hands-free kit function), SMS and update warnings for his applications.About application, precisely, Link Smartphone is in order to benefit from road information in real time.Otherwise, we find the same characteristics as on the Drive range: accident-causing zone alerts, alerts dangerous turns, alerts passages at levels and wild animals, changes in speed zones and counter-sensing alerts, without forgetting the school zones where the speed islimited to 30 km/h.Drivesmart GPS offer capacitive screens of 5 (13 cm), 6 (15 cm) and 7 inches (18 cm).Prices start from 190 €.
The third range called Driveassist has the particularity of offering only one 5 inch model (13 cm) integrating a camera or "dashcam" - a system inaugurated on the previous collection with the Nüvicam. Thanks to this camera, the Driveassist alerts on the imminence of a frontal collision and the crossing of lines. This model is marketed at 350 €.
Finally, the latest range, Driveluxe, differs from the Drivesmart range only by its metal case and a magnetic support.Besides, the weight is felt - 231 g against 174 g - and the price also: € 380.
If all GPS in the Drive range are compatible with the brand BC-30 rear view camera (optional), the number of cards differs depending on the model. Thus, you will find cards of 15, 24 or 45 countries knowing that their updates remain free for life.
With this new range renamed and modernized, Garmin addresses a category of people not driving in the latest connected car model and not benefiting from driving assistants either. For the brand, "it is important for the driver to focus on the road", hence these GPS bringing together a set of essential functions in the same place.
