Iliad's professional operator announces the upcoming arrival of WiFi calls in its mobile plan.
VoWIFI is coming soon at Free Pro. Like VoLTE, this technology remains absent subscribers at Free Mobile and is not yet implemented in the professional offers of Xavier Niel's operator. The operator's official Twitter account confirms it: WiFi and 4G calls will soon be offered in the Free Pro 5G package.
A rather vague announcement but which should delight subscribers to the offer launched last month. As a reminder, Free Pro had already announced, shortly after its launch, the arrival of VoLTE (4G calls) in its mobile plan in 2021.
It remains to be seen whether this arrival in its professional offers will push Free to offer VoWIFI in its consumer packages. Xavier Niel, its founder, however, was rather reluctant to deal with this technology: "I'm not sure we'll ever do it," he confided on the sidelines of the presentation of the Freebox Delta in 2018.
This technology allows all of your communications (calls and SMS/MMS) to pass through the WiFi network to which you are connected. It is not necessary to be connected to your own box, all WiFi networks are compatible and they can thus be used as a replacement connection in a building where 4G does not go well for example. The advantage also lies in better call quality when reception conditions are difficult.
If operators now offer VoWiFi, it is also a way for them to replace the femtocell solution, at a lower cost (Free has integrated it into its Freebox Revolution and Mini 4K), especially for customers who do not have mobile coverage in their residence with the operator.
