A meeting between the governor of Cibitoke and that of western Rwanda took place this October 15 on the common border of Ruhwa.These authorities in the two border provinces have affirmed their commitment to peace and social cohesion.

Among the wishes expressed, there is the resumption of commercial activities but as a prerequisite it is necessary to reopen borders to allow the circulation of goods and people.

OPC 1 Lent Bizoza also recalled that the security situation on the common border has experienced significant progress in recent times, there are almost no more incidents recorded.

François Dressesgeko, governor of western Rwanda is of the same opinion: "We are all very convinced that it is high time to promote free movement on our borders," he insisted in front of many journalists on the spot.

The delegations of the two countries have also discussed on time issues such as prevention and the fight against COVID-19, clear demarcation of borders and the sharing of information on criminals that hide on both sidesboundaries.

These administrators stressed that similar meetings will be organized at the level of all the border municipalities of these two provinces every 3 months while the governors will meet every 6 months.Hope for the reopening of the border

This meeting aroused enormous hope of the resumption of relations between Burundi and its northern neighbor.An encouraging observation: the inhabitants had gathered on the borders on both sides of the Ruhwa river.

"This is a good sign of opening and we are delighted with this meeting," said a merchant based on the Rwanda side.The latter indicated that he is confident of the immediate recovery of traffic at the level of the two borders.

Same story for a Burundian who said that part of the members of his family is blocked for a long time in Rwanda."It is since 2015 that I have no more news of my loved ones.I hope that improving diplomatic relations will promote the circulation of goods and people ".

For some time now, the COVVI-19 pandemic has come to make the situation and the relations that were not in good shape between Burundi and Rwanda since the crisis of 2015.

Following the reopening of the Gatumba border which separates Burundi and DR Congo, the inhabitants of Cibitoke and the western province of Rwanda hope that the authorities of the two countries will also open the border people in a shortertime limit.
