Pierre CrochartSmartphone & gamingDecember 21, 2020 at 5:54 p.m.13 Adrian Kingsley-Hughes, prolific author on our favorite theme of technology, has embarked on a little challenge: calculate how much it cost him, each year, to recharge his smartphone daily.< /b>Spoiler: Not much.
Charging his cell phone is almost free
According to Kinglsey-Hughes' calculations, daily charging his iPhone 6 Plus would only cost him
$0.91 a year.Adrian Kingsley- Hughes says it himself: "I am a heavy user, which means that sometimes it is difficult for me to last an entire day on a single charge". Consumption habits that therefore show slightly overestimated results. For his little survey, the author modeled himself on what most smartphone users do: charge their phone all night (not good!). Using the reports provided by the WattsUp app? Pro, Kingsley-Hughes managed to determine that his iPhone 6 Plus (with a 1810mAh battery)
draws 19.2 Wh per overnight charge. Multiplying this value by 365 days, it is came to the conclusion that charging his phone daily was consuming about 7 kWh per year. And according to the latest figures, the average price per kilowatt hour is set in the United States at $0.13. Conclusion: recharging your phone every night for a year only costs you $0.91 (1 02€ if we adapt to French energy tariffs).
And you, do you leave your smartphone charging all night?
