How to connect an Xbox 360 controller to an Android smartphone

To connect your Xbox 360 controller to an Android mobile phone, you need a smartphone (at least Android 4.0), an Xbox 360 (wireless or wireless) controller, an OTG USB adapter and an Xbox 360 wireless adapter (if you want to connect a wireless controller).

With the OTG USB adapter, make sure the connector adapts to your mobile phone.Ancient smartphones and tablets often still have a micro-USB port, while more recent devices already have USB-C ports.Before buying an OTG USB adapter, you must therefore check the connection of your device.

Let's start with the Xbox 360 controller with cable: first connect the controller to the OTG USB adapter, then connect the adapter to the port of your smartphone or tablet.The controller must be recognized automatically and can be used immediately.

If you want to use a wireless game controller, you must first connect the Xbox 360 wireless adapter to the smartphone or the tablet via the OTG USB adapter and press the Synchronization button on the Xbox adapter.Then, on the Xbox 360 controller, first press the Xbox button in the middle, then on the synchronization button at the top of the controller.If the light of the Xbox 360 wireless adapter stops flashing, the controller has been successfully recognized and is ready to be used.

Connect the Xbox controller to the iPhone

Since the appearance of the iOS 13 operating system, Xbox One compatible Bluetooth controllers can also be connected to iPhones and iPads.Jumping the gamepad with the Apple apparatus is child's play.Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S controllers are not currently working on iOS devices - an update will follow here.

First activate Bluetooth in your iPhone or iPad settings.Then you take your Xbox controller, turn it on with the Xbox button and press the connection button in the upper left corner until the Xbox logo starts to flash quickly.You should now see the "Xbox Wireless Controller" input in the list of Bluetooth devices on your Apple device.Press it once and the controller and the iPhone or the iPad will be twinned.

If pairing does not work despite the right model number, you may have to update your controller's firmware.Simply connect it to your Xbox One or your PC and the update will be installed automatically.
