Hello everyone, this is my new number. This message sent most of the time in a group was not exceptional in the 2000s. Since then, technology has evolved, and "very rare" are the customers of mobile operators in Luxembourg who ask to change their phone number fixed or mobile, explains to L'essentiel POST Luxembourg.
“The number portability mechanism, established by the Institut Luxembourgeois de Régulation (ILR), allows subscribers to keep their telephone number in the event of a change of operator. In Luxembourg, this service has been available since July 1, 2000, for the fixed network, and since February 1, 2005, for the mobile network,” recalls the operator.
"Unthinkable for them to change this number"A real comfort, because the mobile phone is now “at the center of our lives and, with it, our telephone number. Also, for practical reasons and so as not to have to inform all of its repertoire, it is much simpler, in the event of a change of operator, to keep its telephone number”, notes Tango.
A "fast, free and simple" procedure, explains Orange Luxembourg, which observes very few situations in which a customer chooses to cancel by leaving his telephone number. “It can be a departure abroad for example”. Between 2019 and 2020, Orange saw a 70% drop in number change requests. “Coming to the year 2020, this one being so special, it was certainly even more important for customers to keep it to stay in touch with their loved ones”.
Other inclinations symbolize the attachment to the mobile phone number. Thus, the possibility of creating a tailor-made number exists. “Some were able to choose their date of birth or their favorite number and today it is unthinkable for them to change this number”, concludes the operator.
