If it does not have as many options as professional software like Photoshop, its ergonomics make it a very good solution for users who wish to edit their photos and make montages.

Getting started with BeFunky is very intuitive, and even the least experienced in photo editing will have no trouble finding their way around. Navigating between the different modes is simply done using a drop-down menu located on the top bar.

Once one of the three modes has been selected, the work plan appears. Regardless of the active mode, a side navigation bar provides access to all available tools, which are sorted by category. Within a category, features are organized into subgroups for clarity.

Paid tools are marked with a green indicator, making it easy to differentiate them from the options available in the free version. On the bottom bar, you can find a layers tool similar to the one present in Photoshop, alignment options, as well as a history of the actions performed. A zoom slider is present if you want to focus on only part of the image, or have an overview of the shot that you are retouching.

Opening and saving is done directly using the top bar. BeFunky offers many ways to upload photos in order to modify them. In addition to uploading files from your computer, you can upload images from Google Drive, Google Photos, Facebook, Dropbox, or directly from your BeFunky account.

Your snaps can then be saved on your computer, on BeFunky servers as a "project", on supported platforms for uploading as well as on Pinterest and Twitter. When downloading to your PC, the platform offers to choose between JPG, PNG and PDF formats. The quality is adjustable and a custom watermark can be applied to the image. Unfortunately, RAW files are not compatible with the editor, which can be a problem for photographers.

If you pay for a premium subscription, an option next to the open and save buttons also makes batch image processing possible. To put it simply, this allows you to load several tens – even hundreds – of images, and to apply the same filters and adjustments to each of them. Practical when returning from vacation, or after a long photo session.

On the home page, we find the library of projects saved on the servers, and a new project can be created in one of BeFunky's three modes. This screen also provides access to platform news, explanations of features, tutorials and inspirational articles. Attention, if the photo editor is entirely translated into French, this is not the case for these additional contents.

Since the editor is fully translated into French, those who are not comfortable with English can use the platform without any problems.

Considering that it's entirely online, BeFunky is a pretty good photo editing and graphic design platform, but it's not suitable for all audiences. Indeed, the most experienced photographers will prefer professional software, like Photoshop, which is less ergonomic, but more powerful. If you only want to create visuals online, BeFunky is not the best solution either, and it may be wise to turn to a more specialized platform like Canva.
