In September 2014, Apple first presented Apple Watch, a connected watch only compatible with the iPhone (eg iPhone SE 2020).In 2020, we are at the sixth generation of the watch, the Apple Watch Series 5. Since then, the object has become a real fashion object, sports tracking but above all, an element of the Apple ecosystem. But between the different existing editions, which should be turned in 2020?
Announced in September 2017 with the iPhone 8 and X, the Apple Watch Series 3 is the only one that has remained in the Apple catalog next to Series 5. The reason seems quite obvious, its price. At the time of writing, the Apple Watch Series 3 is sold from € 229.The price is much more attractive than the € 449 requested for the Series 5. It can also be occasionally found towards the 100-150 € which is acceptable.
This price difference is explained by technical differences.Compared to series 5, we mainly retain larger borders and the absence of an electrical sensor of heart rate.As a reminder, this sensor allows the recording of an electrocardiogram (ECG).Also, the Apple Watch Series 3 is less efficient than the Series 5 with its S3 processor and its Apple wireless W2 chip (Bluetooth 4.2).Nevertheless, despite this difference in performance (and connectivity), you should not see yourself too much on a daily basis since it remains excellent to date. Finally, you will not be able to use it as a compass and is not equipped with the "Always on Display" function. The latter allows the time to display permanently. On Series 3, you will have to tap the screen or move your wrist to wake up the screen.
Otherwise, the Apple Watch Series 3 benefits from many functions thanks to Watchos 6 such as Series 5. We can take the example of the detection of heart rate, menstrual monitoring or sports activity monitoring (including swimming). The connected watch also allows you to take your calls, send messages or even control your music. It also offers contactless payment with Apple Pay, reading your iPhone notifications or controlling your airpods music for example.
Likewise for consulting your agenda, unlocking your Mac or taking a photo from your iPhone remotely. There are of course thousands of other functions especially with the App Store, but there are far too many for all of you to quote them here. The autonomy of the watch is approximately one day.Besides, the watch should continue to receive Watchos software updates for at least 2 years.Obviously, the Apple Watch Series 3 is an excellent choice for starting, assessing your needs or simply trying.

At the beginning of 2020, the Apple Watch Series 4 had the best value for money.Unfortunately, at present, it is difficult to find in new since it is no longer in the Apple catalog. You can find it in the second-hand market around € 250 or at some approved resellers around € 300-340 if it is still on sale.
Unlike Series 3, Series 4 benefits from the brand new design with reduced screen borders as well as the electrical frequency frequency sensor. This gives you the possibility of making electrocardiograms (ECG) which allows you to assess your heart rate and detect possible cardiac anomalies. We can for example cite atrial fibrillation which is the most frequent of cardiac arrhythmias. Then, this edition also benefits from a more efficient S4 processor and a W3 wireless chip (Bluetooth 5.0) identical to that of the Apple Watch Series 5. It is estimated that the watch is about twice as efficient as theSeries 3. Thus, this new processor should allow better support for updates in the future. In addition, it should receive Watchos software updates for the next 3 to 4 years.
Finally, the watch offers new functions such as falls detection, measurement of noise levels.Of course, these new functions are added to those already present on Series 3. The Apple Watch Series 4 is an excellent choice if you want to start without breaking the bank.It has the advantage of benefiting from new functions focused on health that Series 3 does not offer.
If you have already used an Apple Watch and you use it, we can advise you on the Apple Watch Series 5. Compared to Series 4, it offers a new "Always on Display" function. This allows the watch to permanently display the time without lifting your wrist or touching the screen. It has become possible thanks to its screen which is less energy -consuming.However, since the screen is still active, it consumes more energy.Fortunately, it is possible to deactivate this feature in the watch settings to benefit from better autonomy.
In addition to this, the watch now has a storage of 32GB twice as important as the Series 4. This update should make it possible to install more applications and ensure a certain longevity in the device. Finally, the Apple Watch Series 5 recovers a useful compass function in some applications (eg plans). The watch would in theory be more efficient than series 4.
Announced in September 2019 with the iPhone 11 and 11 pro, it is the only one available in new at Apple with the Series 3 today. The Apple Watch Series 5 is available from € 449 at Apple. The invoice can climb up to € 1599 for the Hermès version depending on the material chosen.

Whether for the Apple Watch Series 3, 4 or 5, they all have a cellular version (or 4G).For the classic version, the watch must go through the internet connection of the iPhone to be able to respond to messages or calls for example. With the cell version, the iPhone is no longer essential on the network part thanks to its compatibility with the E-SIM.As a reminder, an E-SIM is simply a dematerialized SIM card.
So, you can for example go to do a sporting activity, go shopping, etc. without having to take your iPhone.Indeed, the Apple Watch therefore has its own connection in 4G and can make calls, send messages, download applications, calculate an itinerary, etc. independently.Unfortunately, the E-SIM in France is only available at Orange (+ its Sosh subsidiary) and SFR.It is optional for € 5/month in addition to your usual mobile package. In addition, an Apple Watch with cellular connection costs around 100 € more expensive compared to the classic version. We can advise you if you often have the opportunity to do activities without taking your iPhone. In this case, it gives you the opportunity to call or respond to calls in an emergency for example.
